It’s a huge honour to become First Sea Lord.Leading incredible personnel of the Royal Navy is a privilege.I’ve always been driven by our mission to keep the UK safe -now more than ever we must strengthen our combat readiness, modernise faster and shape the Navy our country needs.

Good to talk to VAdm Mark Hammond Chief of Royal Australian Navy, and work with the Australian High Commissioner His Excellency The Honourable Stephen Smith on our shared endeavours. I’m looking forward to engaging with allies and partners as I begin my tenure as 1SL. #ausnavy

81 years ago today, thousands of troops landed in France in the largest amphibious assault in history. I pause to honour all who enabled that maritime operation. Then as now, the Royal Navy stood strong - thank you to all who still do today, serving at home and around the world.
