GEMA/HS Exercise Specialist Sarah Matich led an After-Action Report Writing course at our Headquarters for 20 participants from local jurisdictions. It was designed to help emergency management professionals effectively document and analyze exercises and real-world incidents.

Yesterday morning, GEMA/HS Director Josh Lamb and Chief of Staff Mike Smith visited AT&T’s Network Disaster Recovery warehouse, one of only five locations in the nation. AT&T briefed our agency on their response and recovery capabilities for both natural and manmade disasters.

[THREAD] It appears that a meteor or space junk crossed the skies of north Georgia just before 12:30 PM today (Thursday 6/26). Reports of an earthquake came in shortly after, followed by sightings & video of a flash across the sky seen as far as Macon & Upstate South Carolina.

GEMA/HS Training & Exercise completed teaching the first offering of Fundamentals of Threats and Hazards in Georgia. Through this course, students uncovered how science helps us predict, prepare for, and respond to disasters.

GEMA/HS Community Partnerships Manager, Jamaar Pye, and GA VOAD President, Lanita Lloyd, participated in the Newton County LTRG Kick-Off Meeting. Officials from government, faith-based organizations, non-profits, financial institutions, and concerned citizens were in attendance.

The Georgia Police Accreditation Coalition (GPAC) exists to improve the quality and delivery of law enforcement services to the citizens of its communities. Homeland Security Task Force Agent David Shanks provided BTAM training at the 2025 GPAC Summer Conference.

GEMA/HS is awarding grants to 10 Jewish faith-based organizations through the Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program to help strengthen their security. All faith-based organizations concerned about safety are encouraged to apply for future funding opportunities.

Today, GEMA/HS Field Coordinator Sheri Russo was deployed to the Atlanta Fulton Emergency Operations Center to assist with coordination efforts for the Peachtree Road Race, the largest 10K in the world.

GEMA/HS Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources Manager Warren Shepard was deployed to the Georgia World Congress Convention Authority Emergency Center to support operations during the 2025 Club World Cup Quarter-Finals last week.
