We’re constantly being told that our present moment is one of crisis: a ‘silent epidemic’ of male unhappiness. This myth has numerous threads. Chief among them is that boys are underperforming in a schooling system that’s biased towards girls’ aptitudes. There are further claims:

Instead, I think that men and boys are unhappy precisely because of the narrative of entitlement and violent resentment that is being fed to them.

It’s possible for men to see the *benefits* of sharing responsibilities with women, rather than resenting them for ‘stealing’ their power; and for schoolboys to learn from girls’ work ethic, and, in turn to share with girls some of their own self-confidence and entitlement.

It is possible for men to see that so many of the causes of their own unhappiness - and women’s, and other men’s - is male violence, and to seek ways of curbing their violent tendencies.

People are way more concerned about ruining a perpetrator’s life than they are about a perpetrator ruining a survivor’s life.
