The Int'l Criminal Court faces intense pressures. We note with regret the #US announcement to impose additional sanctions on the court. Germany will continue to be a steadfast supporter of international law & the #ICC - Johann Wadephul at the Rome Statute Review Conference Berlin. 2/2

Very grateful to everyone who made the case for strengthening the ICC’s jurisdictional regime on the crime of aggression on the first panel of today’s conference! Important that African and European perspectives were shared.

The majority of all law of the sea cases today are decided by the Int‘l Tribunal for the Law of the Sea - even when they initially began as arbitration cases. There could be no greater sign of trust States have in the jurisprudence, but also the efficiency of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Since 1998, the crime of aggression has been listed at the same level as the other 3 core crimes. To harmonize the jurisdictional regime for all 4 core crimes and reduce the accountability gap will send a strong political message. Full group statement: new-york-un.diplo.de/un-en/2726266-…
