The global economy stands at a critical juncture. My statement to the IMF and World Bank Meetings calls for a shift in economic policy. A unified strategy is needed that links job creation, labour rights, and economic growth, to build a fairer and more resilient global economy.

In my address to the #BRICS Labour & Employment Ministers' Meeting, I emphasized the decisions we make today will shape whether #AI and the ecological transition worsen inequalities or unlock new pathways to #SocialJustice. With the right policies we can help ensure the latter.

Good to meet Mohammed bin Hassan Al Obaidli, DG of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Ministers of Labour & Social Affairs of the GCC. We discussed cooperation to advance social dialogue, support platform economy development & promote the Global Coalition for #SocialJustice.

Productive meeting with H.E. Yousef bin Abdulhussein Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs, and Acting Labour Minister of #Bahrain. We discussed areas of cooperation with @ILO, developments in Bahrain’s labour market, and ongoing efforts to advance #DecentWork.

Pleased to take part in the Bab Al Bahrain Forum in #Bahrain. Proactive labour policies, engaging workers & employers’ organizations in social dialogue and recommitting to fundamental principles and rights at work, are key to a more stable global economy & increased #DecentWork.

Decent work is the best route out of poverty, the key to sustainable development, and the foundation of greater #SocialJustice & peace. It must be an explicit target of economic policy that integrates jobs, rights & growth, for a fairer and more resilient global economy. #1May

Important dialogue organized by UN GA President on ending child labour in all forms. Freedom from child labour is a fundamental right but 1 in 10 children are in work. Action to ensure access to quality education, social protection & decent work for parents is vital to #EndChildLabour!

Very pleased to sign a new agreement with the Qatar Fund for Development. Qatar Fund For Development صندوق قطر للتنمية's contribution is designed to provide support for initiatives that help advance decent work. It demonstrates our increased cooperation on areas of shared concern in the world of work.

Without fair recruitment, there is no decent work. Our Fair Recruitment Initiative works to ensure recruitment practices within & across borders are grounded in int. labour standards. With political will and cooperation, fair recruitment can help set the path to #SocialJustice.

I welcome the World Health Assembly's adoption of the Pandemic Agreement and its key provisions to ensure #DecentWork and protection measures for health & care workers, & other essential workers. @ILO is ready to work with its Member States & social partners on its application.

Productive meeting with H.E. Fernando Elísio Freire, Minister of State, Family, Inclusion and Social Development of Cabo Verde. We discussed social protection, ensuring fair and well managed migration, formalization of the informal economy, and ways to boost youth employability.

Honoured to meet H.E. Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva of Cabo Verde. We discussed #SocialJustice, social dialogue, and government efforts to eradicate extreme poverty & enhance youth employability. I also attended a special session of the Social Concertation Council.

Engaging discussions with employers’ and workers’ organizations in Cabo Verde. We focused on the need to strengthen social dialogue and address challenges in the business environment. #Socialjustice and #DecentWork begin with inclusive dialogue.

Appreciate the opportunity to meet with H.E. José Maria Neves, President of the Republic of Cabo Verde. We discussed @ILO and #CaboVerde cooperation, the government’s programme to eradicate extreme poverty, #youth employability, and the challenge of large-scale youth migration.

Our WESO Update shows 7M fewer jobs than expected will be created in 2025, due to a weakened global economic outlook. At the same time technological change is reshaping world of work. Action to promote decent job creation, skills training, social protection and dialogue is key.
