On Feb 19, Athena, Tamara, and Alex enjoyed a vibrant evening at the Embassy of Malaysia, hosted by Chargé d’Affaires Khaeriah Zaehera Abd Kayyum. The night featured Malaysian history, music, dance, and delicious cuisine—a true cultural celebration!

At FIU 's Cuban Research Institute, the group explored the link between human rights and political repression in Cuba. Grateful to Sebastián A. Arcos and Yoe Suarez for sharing insights on advocacy, research, and the fight to defend human rights.

At the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, Investigating and Prosecuting Human Rights Violations group explored the resilience of Cuban exiles through powerful stories, art, and history. Thank you to Frank Rodriguez and the museum staff for preserving this legacy.

In March, we welcomed Japanese visitors for a Rural Economic Opportunity Through Binational Tourism program. Visitors had a kayak tour at Crandon Marina, led by Miami EcoAdventures, diving into ecotourism and South Florida’s natural beauty. Thank you to the team for this visit!

Our Director of Operations, Tamara Garcia, led a panel at the Global Ties U.S. National Meeting on “Maximizing Value: Effective Budgeting Without Compromising Program Quality,” sharing tips on cutting costs, prioritizing essentials, and building inclusive, high-impact budgets.

In March, the Japanese tourism delegation met the South Miami-Dade EDC at Schnebly Redland’s Winery to explore agritourism’s economic impact. Thanks to Geri Grimes-Lewis, Lisa Greer, Ebony Godfrey, Charles LaPradd, Schnebly Winery & Matthew for an amazing visit!

The Japanese Tourism delegation wrapped up their visit with a session at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau , exploring Miami’s tourism strategies—rural, cultural, eco, and more. Thank you to Rolando Aedo, Richard Gibbs & Ali Bibeau for their insights and support!

Japanese tourism participants enjoyed a lively evening at The Berry Farms —a family-run gem in the Redlands. With line dancing and rural charm, they experienced how agritourism brings “a piece of country to Miami” while building community and shared cultural moments.

Earlier this spring, Tamara and Alex attended Japan Currents: Connecting Aerospace Communities, hosted by Japan-America Society of Miami/South Florida. With leaders from Space Florida, Boeing & more, the event showcased US-Japan aerospace ties and future innovation.

The Nicaragua delegation visited IPC Visual Journalism (iWitness), where Dr. Rebecca Friedman, Carl-Philippe Juste & Alon Skuy highlighted the power of imagery and narrative to inspire civic engagement and truth-telling. Grateful for their impactful work.
