On December 5th Global Visions organised a panel discussion where the current state of the world and means of improving were discussed with Risto Marjomaa and Antti Kauppinen. The video is now available on the YouTube channel of our association: youtu.be/GSO1vculmmg

We conclude our blog texts on the history of the philosophy of justice with two texts, in which we examine justice in the modern world. In this first text Max Tallberg answers the question whether the modern world can be held just. globalvisions.fi/en/2023/12/18/…

Questions of justice can justifiably be raised as the central theme in moral deliberation. They are, however, also central when examining the functionality of society on a practical level.

Global Visions embraces a global view on justice: all people worldwide should be guaranteed the prerequisites for a good life, and everyone should be practically equal.

Entering the 21st century there has been significant progress, for instance, in the fight against poverty. It could possibly be argued that the modern world is more just than ever before. This does not mean, however, that the current world could be held to be just in reality.

From the point of view of our association it is evident, that the current world cannot be held just, whether this is examined from a global perspective or from the point of view of developed nations.

We conclude our theme regarding the history of the philosophy of justice with a blog text, where Max Tallberg enquires what a just world would look like, both from a practical and philosophical perspective. globalvisions.fi/en/2024/01/22/…

Reflecting on justice and actions related to it initially involves a fundamental stance on the question of what each person deserves.

Psychology recognizes the so-called just-world fallacy, where people tend to think the world is fair, and therefore, people get what they deserve. In contrast, the belief in a random or unjust world has been raised.

It is clear that a just a world would have to fulfill many of the conditions I raised in my previous text. These include the realization of universal human rights at a global level, including meeting basic needs.

A just world could also be described above all as one where everyone has equal, genuine, and free opportunities to pursue a good and valuable life.

When analysing contemporary societies in general, it can be argued that they continue to exercise power and control in ways that create and maintain both hierarchies and unequal systems. globalvisions.fi/en/2024/02/26/…
