I’m just a Northern Lad wandering around the Palace of Westminster for a living. Views here are mine alone.

.Liz Kendall correct to say “the country needs a debate about what makes a good death, as more and more of us have longer deaths.” Two thirds of the country wants choice at end of life. This is a huge reforming moment for Westminster. Trevor Phillips

Assisted dying is often described as a controversial issue. As these four latest polls show, it isn’t. Public support for a law limited to terminal illness has been high for years and opposition low. #GiveUsOurLastRights express.co.uk/news/politics/…

I went on the London Tube for the first time in months yesterday. It's so much worse than I remember it: kids jumping over ticket barriers in full view of staff, hitting stop buttons on escalators, starting on other passengers. Is this common or did I get unlucky?

I see all the arguments against assisted dying on here - but none of them are really about what is actually being proposed. They are all ‘what ifs’. How cruel and selfish - to deny me - should I have a terminal illness with 6 months to live - the right to choose my ending.

In Westminster for today’s historic Commons debate on #ChoiceAtTheEndOfLife I want to pay tribute to Kim Leadbeater MBE MP who has led the bill with respect, compassion & integrity and to the incredible Dignity in Dying team, families & supporters 👏💪🫡

Whilst supporting Rachel Reeves desire to build trade links with #China, the announcement of a paltry £115m per year deal with the world's second-largest economy shows how much more needs to be done. Better returns to be made from dealing with #Brexitdisaster. Liberal Democrats

Yesterday I attended my first meeting on the Procedure and Privilege Committee, following my appointment on the 30th January. Extremely proud moment.

BBC breakfast asked Dignity in Dying Patron Prue Leith whether she felt anything should be added to the assisted dying Bill, and she said while it's not the most liberal in the world, she believes it's the right law for Britain

It's beyond time for change. Without those who didn't live to see this progress: Diane Pretty, Lord Joffe, Terry Pratchett, Debbie Purdy, Noel Conway, Diana Melly, Paola Marra, Ian Douglas, Alison Fenner, David Minns, Pippa Stone, Lisa Cook to name but a few, we would not be here
