Collecting small, deep water #corals in the weathered shales may leed to finds of accessory fauna, such as #trilobites in the #Devonian of #Morocco

This a copepod parasite (Sarcotretes scopeli), a relatively common deep-pelagic copepod. What you see is the thorax (red part) and egg sacs (white strings). The actual copepod is located within the host’s stomach and looks like a grappling hook to avoid slipping out of the host.

Protecting mangroves is a crucial step to lower planet-warming carbon emissions. These ecosystems store up to 1,000 tonnes of carbon per hectare in their biomass and soils. More info on the many benefits of mangroves: bit.ly/3KMib… bit.ly/3KMibE0

Back at it in the Arabian Sea! Monitoring Potential Fishing Zones (PFZs), lot of sampling and fish catch data collection. Excited to see how oceanographic conditions influence fisheries! 🌊🐟 #Fieldwork #PFZ #MarineScience #FisheriesResearch

Great initiative, Turning the tide on plastic pollution! Fishing communities can now earn rewards by returning weathered nets for recycling. Protect our oceans and promote a circular economy. Every net returned makes a difference ! #CleanSeas #RecycleForRewards

Shocking microplastic pollution. Zooplankton underpin the marine food web. Most are transparent to help them hide in water. Many microplastics drifting among the plankton are transparent too. Is it any wonder our litter enters the food chain? Can you spot it? ZEISS Microscopy

When you’re atop Karnataka’s highest peak, soaking in the view… and a storm crashes the party. Soaked, shivering, scrambling for shelter, but one friend’s dumb joke reminds you "we will make it". #fieldwork

By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean. The time to #BeatPlasticPollution & #SaveOurOcean is NOW. We all have a role to play. Get inspired: un.org/sustainabledev…

The Atlantic Pelagic Basslet (Howella atlantica) is a deep water species, found between 100m and 1,800m depth in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and the Gulf. The stomach is lined with deeply pigmented tissue, strongly suggests that the species feeds on bioluminescent organisms.
