Madrona 4th graders spent their afternoon at GPS harvesting greens and cooking minestrone (Madronastrone?) and lentil soup. Surveys of which soup was the tastiest were not very revealing... Because each group proudly exclaimed their soup was "definitely the best". 😂 #cooking

After program last week Annie (our #garden coordinator) had the pleasure of spending time with this young person, chatting about the #greenhouse and harvesting the first carrot of 2020. When his dad arrived he exclaimed, "Hi, dad! I harvested this carrot! 'Harvest' means 'pick'."

Much gratitude to Urban Feed and Garden for donating 142 seed packets (WOW 😳) to our garden! Just imagine how many delicious, nutritious meals these seeds will become for Seattle youth... Most of them are from Territorial Seed Company to boot, and we love their products!

Cooking in the sunshine! Today was a beautiful day to make quesadillas packed with vegetables and spices. Groups of Madrona students voted on the flavors they wanted to include (everything from bell peppers to cilantro), making each quesadilla unique.

West African cuisine was the theme of yesterday's Atlantic Street Center session! We cooked yassa chicken (a Senegalese dish that one of our youth was already a pro at and quickly took charge of) and jollof rice. Personal sweet potato pies were a total hit for dessert. #Cooking

#COVID19 Following the announcement of Seattle Public School closures, all Green Plate Special programs have been canceled as of March 11th until further notice. Our Partnership Open House and Garden to Glass Cocktail Class have similarly being canceled (1/4)

All of us at GPS are deeply saddened that we cannot serve youth through our programs at this time, and we are considering ways that align with our work in which we can continue to support our communities. For now, we will increase our garden produce donations to... (2/4)

... Rainier Valley Food Bank and we’re brainstorming how we can share our program content digitally. Further, we're encouraging staff in any efforts to donate blood during GPS work hours, as concerns of #COVID19 have affected supply at local blood banks. (3/4)
