The Grillo Lab had a lot to celebrate after our annual lab clean up! We had our inaugural awards ceremony, followed by a fun team-building event at an Escape Room, and finished with an excellent dinner. Congrats to everyone in the lab! #WorkHardPlayHard #PeopleOverProjects #newPI

Did you know Matt Kaeberlein used to head a lab University of Washington? He gathered former lab members for a lively debate about longevity interventions such as acarbose, sauna, NAD+, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and many more. youtu.be/Itx1FvJfDXc

We love a healthy debate. Matt Kaeberlein's lab members got together to discuss/disagree with each other about various longevity interventions at the recent American Aging Association meeting. youtu.be/Itx1FvJfDXc

What I don't get about academia is the chronic lack of celebration. It is hard to get & maintain grant funding, hard to get papers accepted without Faustian bargains, hard to be a great mentor, & hard to maximize trainee success. All of it is hard. We should celebrate everything.

Hypoxia in a pill! Chronic, continuous 11% FIO2 suppresses brain pathology in models of mitochondrial disease and aging, but we need practical alternatives. We combine a Hb "left-shifter" with a HIF2a inhibitor to achieve therapeutic hypoxia in mice. jci.org/articles/view/…
