Our observatory in WA has been gifted a Wajarri name! 📡 Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, CSIRO's Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. This dual name means 'sharing sky and stars' and represents the Wajarri Yamaji's long connection to Country as the region's first astronomers. ⭐️

Five of the six antennas that make up our #ATCA telescope move on three kilometres of rail track. When they move, they travel at around 4kmph. More facts: csiro.au/en/about/facil…

Radio #ImageoftheWeek 📡 As we begin a New Year, take a look at the original radio receiver of Grote Reber, one of the world's first radio astronomers. More than 80 years ago he used this very receiver to detect radio light from beyond our galaxy.

It was an absolute pleasure to host the Tasmanian teachers leading the "Kids in Space" program at the Mount Pleasant Radio Astronomy Observatory and Grote Reber Museum. Educating and inspiring the next generation about #STEM and #space is so critical for our future.

Last week, we hosted 30 talented students from the @UTas_ Catalyst program at the Greenhill Observatory to showcase our world-class facilities and share insights on space and astronomy with them. Simon Ellingsen and Aaron C showed the many opportunities for students in this field

It is with deep regret that we share the news of the recent passing of two valued friends and colleagues. Prof. Pip Hamilton and Eric Baynes, both contributed greatly to the Mt Pleasant Observatory in different ways and times. Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.

Canberra's DSS43 has just successfully radiated 4 commands to ARCHIVED - NASA Voyager 1 using its 100kW high power transmitter. Now the waiting game begins with a round trip light time of 44H 07M 11S before we see their effect back on Earth.
