Examples of shore gathering activities include seaweed harvesting, bait digging and foraging for Ormers.๐Ÿชธ Intensive harvesting reduces the biodiversity of our marine intertidal zone. More information is needed on populations to assess impacts. #foraging #ormering #marinelife

Intensively managed land is not as good for wildlife as sympathetically managed areas.๐ŸŒป Species-rich grasslands are declining due to inappropriate management. 1/3 of Guernsey consists of gardens. These areas can provide habitat for species.๐Ÿ #landmanagement #gardenfornature

A lack of land management can be detrimental to biodiversity. This can lead to increases in scrub/woodland. Dense scrub has increased by 64% since 1999.๐ŸŒณ A balance is needed to implement good land management practices and help increase biodiversity. #conservation #managingland

Connecting our island community with nature is one of the aims of the Nature Commission so it was a real pleasure to be invited to lead Year 4 children from Amherst Primary School on nature walks around The Millennium Walk at St Saviour's Reservoir. ๐Ÿ•ท๐Ÿž๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹ Guernsey Water

It was great to be invited to lead nature walks for Year 3 children from St Martin's Primary School as part of their stay at Fauxquets Valley campsite. The nature walks were a little soggy at times so we saw a lot of amazing snails!๐ŸŒ #NatureEducation
