Since there’s been a lot of discussion about what our paper means for dinosaur life appearance, and a few complaints about how we didn’t illustrate it ourselves, here’s what the exoparia means for drawing dinosaurs (🧵)

Many have complained that there have been insufficient visuals provided in the paper. In addition to being entirely untrue, the field is not at the mercy and service to hobbyist artists- it is to disseminate data and information, of which this paper does with tremendous success.

academics and random paleoartists on twitter are not obligated to digest every publication for the general population to understand the academic field of palaeontology shouldn't be treated as some machine churning out papers just for the production of new paleoart

Happy #TylosurusTuesday! Did you know? There are seven species of Tylosurus alive today!!! They are readily distinguishable from other marine life by their toothy elongate snouts. They are of course very dangerous, & have severely injured multiple people (& killed at least one).

not that I had ever thought about it before but I suppose I'm not surprised that the paleo community has an understanding of DNA that appears to be completely informed by Jurassic Park
