I love a Friday evening round and particularly enjoyed seeing the playing hall tonight. 2nd year running at Hastings and delighted to see 3 of my opponents from last yr are back again too. I've gone up a section but (somehow) off the mark with a stodgy draw.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Hastings this year, both the town and the chess. Sad to skip out on final round - transport a mess this weekend - but happy enough with my 1.5/4. My opponents all played well. Congratulations on another fine edition. I'll be there next year 100%

Hastings in England is special for me. On this day in 1993, I won the prestigious Hastings Tournament, tied with Evgeny Bareev (see the pic).🏆 Four years earlier, I had won the Hastings Challengers ahead of Matthew Sadler - it was a tournament bond with a life lesson. As one of

Very sad news - Icelandic GM Friðrik Ólafsson, who only recently turned 90, has passed away. The former FIDE President played three times in our Premier tournament, winning jointly in 1955/6 with Viktor Korchnoi. RIP. icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/news/2025… via Iceland Monitor
