Watching all of this draft coverage got me thinking about my own draft day experience in 1991 when I was slated as a first round pick. I visited a handful of teams. I talked to Denver, I talked to Detroit, spoke with Dallas. They were all in the top 12.

I remember when the fourth pick came up. I was at home watching it on TV, and all of a sudden, the Broncos call me and they go: 'With the fourth pick, we're going to take either you or linebacker Mike Croel from the University of Nebraska.' I was like, 'All right, cool.'

Then I see the Commissioner walk up. He goes, 'With the fourth pick in the 1991 NFL draft, Denver Broncos select Mike Croel, linebacker, Nebraska.' All I heard was dial tone! Man, they cold-blooded hung up on me. Didn't say bye, didn't say anything! 🤣

So when Coach Wayne Fontes called and said, 'Hey, Herman, remember I came to visit you at Virginia? We're going to take you with the 10th pick,' I'm thinking to myself, 'Yeah, right.' 😂 But we know how that worked out. 😏 #Lions #Draft #NFL
