This morning I had the privilege of joining CBS News to talk about why we need a public health approach to the overdose crisis. Tariffs and border enforcement will not save lives cbsnews.com/video/drug-pol…

🧵It is unacceptable that we continue to see racial disparities in #Overdose rates. Black, Indigenous/Native, Latine/x, & other People of Color have long been targeted by the so-called "#WarOnDrugs," more accurately described as a war on people. We must... bit.ly/RacialDisparit…

I just received a message from a young woman in the Hampton Roads area who will be “feetoxed” (the cruel practice of administrative rapid detox) on Monday if she doesn’t pay the methadone clinic $240. She’s in her 3rd month doing really well, this literally might kill her.

I hate the fact that I can’t go to the ER without being questioned about addiction, housing, food, pain, and finances knowing full well they do not have any services to help with any of it.

Something that is constantly missing form the conversation on overdose: not everyone is suffering. Drugs are pretty awesome. This whole drugs are bad narrative is a bunch of Prohibitionist nonsense. All drugs have purpose, strengths and limitations.

We are in an EMERGENCY. There is no emergency table of coordination at the City level or the provincial level to deal with the closures of SCS!! Yesterday a colleague found a man in a door way overdosed. She tried to revive him, doing CPR but he was dead.

To all those who are yelling “think of the children” are you really thinking of children?!? We created supervised consumption sites so people could use safely inside and now they are outside dying and oding. Closing sites doesn’t make drug use disappear. Good job.

Just about everyone I know who died of OD had been thru treatment. Yet they’re still gone. If you ban (rather than expand) safe supply & supervised consumption, many more will die. You will “bring home” our corpses.

On April 8th, community gathered in front of the Salvation Army headquarters and made our cry heard! No more TSA running Denver shelters and services! We have had enough of the abuse, neglect, mistreatment… Read Denverite article here denverite.com/2025/04/09/den…

Trey Helten was nothing less than a hero. He saved hundreds of lives by reversing ODs, driving people to treatment & just being kind. Trey was a friend to Crackdown and appeared on the show twice. We'll never forget you, Trey. Rest in power. rb.gy/ztwctt

As we lose another person in the DTES, a community member. We should all reflect on what we do with our time on earth. Are we harming other people or are we helping. That especially goes for the media and politicians who have so much influence to do good or to do harm.

🧵#OpioidSettlementFunds should be used to directly support people who use drugs & other harm reductionists caring for them. In New Jersey as well as many other communities across the country, these funds aren't being used in ways that directly save lives. bit.ly/NJOpioidSettle…
