The more time I invest into understanding the problem of #snakebite the more I'm realising I know very little. The problem is very diverse with its roots embedded into the institutional gaps. This highlights the need for preventive measures which are often underfunded.

In the world of #cobras, there is cattle, people and paddy. Several species of snakes thrive in places where humans live. While the conflict is high, the ecological importance of snakes is significant. Co-existence is the only way forward.

There is a thin line between coexistence and conflict. While conflict can be easily triggered, coexistence takes years to develop. Me and my colleagues are often questioned on whose side we're on while mitigating #HumanWildlife conflict. We're on the side that's willing to change

Awesome! Hope to see more of this for other countries in the future ( I probably wouldn't have dropped out in grade 10 if this was the case in SA!)

New paper alert 🚨 in Communications Biology - we examine economic vulnerability of communities to human-wildlife conflict. People living alongside carnivores in developing economies suffer an 8X higher economic vulnerability compared to developed ones. A thread 🧵 tinyurl.com/ycxmjuc2
