Last year ON CAMPUS I got pulled over by the MSU police at 930p and got asked 1) is this your car 2) what are you doing out so late? He pulled me over bc I had my college and masters tassels hanging up in my rear view mirror I kid you not....

My lab is funded by CZI Science & Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network, awesome organizations whose values I share. Many CZI-funded scientists are concerned about the spread of misinformation & incendiary statements on @Facebook. We wrote an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg: washingtonpost.com/technology/202…

Yes this sort of stuff is beyond the pale in a free society.Regardless of one's political persuasion no one should be supporting this. Libertarians,Liberals,Greens (etc) & conservatives should be able to agree that we as citizens have constitutional rights-and these violate them

It's confirmed. Seattle Police just arrested the man who filmed them macing a little girl last week. I don't believe in coincidences. They are targeting protesters, this is the second in 24 hours. Huge shows of force both times. I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified.

Given rumors I’m hearing from pretty good sources, if you’re on an H-1B, J-1 or L-1 visa and are outside the US, you should try and reenter the US quickly.

The UCSC admin is proactively blocking teaching appointments for grads who were fired for striking, even after their departments recommend them for these appointments. They really are trying to push us out of the university.

This is the worst thing that’s happened to US science and innovation. Banning #Immigrant scientists will lead to a devastating loss in creativity and productivity. Pretty much every lab in the US will suffer. whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…

Why do universities treat trainees getting NIH, NSF, or other awards or grants as a burden? How about - "Great! Let's make sure nothing changes in how often/much they get paid and make sure they keep their health insurance, because these are very reasonable things to expect."

Today we report a new model system for the gut microbiome: hCom2, a defined community of 119 strains. Alice Cheng led the charge, with major contributions from Po-Yi Ho, Andrés Aranda-Díaz, and Moved to @sunitjain.bsky.social. Co-led by my longtime collaborator KC Huang. 1/22 cell.com/cell/fulltext/…

The non-linearity of science makes it difficult to know if you're on track, or way behind. It can feel like everyone else is getting data, talks, papers, grants, etc., while you're standing still. At success 1, it's easy to look around and feel an order-of-magnitude behind:
