I stand for human rights and civil liberties for everyone, not the targeting of Muslims, migrants & minorities who will be disproportionately impacted by these proposals. Tony Blair’s failed project has no place being resurrected & the road to authoritarianism must be rejected.

This is a moment of huge danger. There are 4 Scottish citizens taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla and others from across the UK. The government must speak out. All activists on board must be given safe passage.

So very sorry to hear that the lovely Dame Jane Goodall has died. She was a charming, hugely intelligent person who achieved so much both in science and in teaching us to think about our world. A sad, sad loss.

Horrified by the attack on a synagogue in Manchester, on Yom Kippur, the holiest time in the Jewish calendar. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and all Jewish communities. Antisemitism is an evil we must confront and stand resolutely against.

The devastating news from Manchester has darkened this Day of Atonement & my heart goes out to all of those who have lost family & friends. I wish all of Aberdeen’s Jewish community & all those observing the day across Scotland and around the globe a blessed Yom Kippur.

As we approach Shabbat later today, I hope the Jewish community know many in the Muslim community grieve with them. So many, including the terrorist who committed yesterday's atrocity, want to sow the seeds of division between us. Let's resolve, together, not to let them win.
