Okay so I know it’s generally a bad idea to ask for medical advice online but if anyone has any suggestions for how I can stop barfing every time I get my blood drawn that would be truly lovely.

What is everyone’s favorite super niche nonfiction book? I want a journey into the most weirdly specific bits of history/science/culture/whatever. I’ll go first: my fave is Dr Erica McAlister ‘s Secret Life of Flies. Just a delightful peak into the lives of these little weirdos.

Some of the weirdest parasitic copepods are in the genus Philichthys. They live inside the skull bones of fish. They are so weird that we don’t know what most of their body parts are. The female (right) is 2cm long and has processes growing out of her body. Male in vial on left

Sometimes I think about how medicinal leeches are just tiny healthcare workers who do their jobs perfectly and then get incinerated anyway.

Women’s gymnastics is honestly such a wild sport. Like okay we are going to have these amazing athletes doing some of the most impressive physical feats that any human has ever done… however for reasons (?) we will also make her do some silly dance moves in between

Not to be a conspiracy theorist about the triathlon, but “1000 cfu is too much poop unless we decide it’s fine” is a pretty wild rule to have on the books

For any spider folks still on Twitter: is it a myth that if you take a spider from your house and put it outside it is doomed to die? I don’t want to kill them but the number of spiders in my apartment is starting to get out of hand
