I'm speaking at the #LabourConference next Tuesday about the pressures many of our members are facing as creative freelancers, and the steps The Labour Party Government must take to support TV and film directors.

ICYMI Andy Harrower was representing directors this morning at the #LabourConference2024, discussing: ✔️The need for a freelance commissioner in Parliament who understands our industry ✔️Better protections and improved clarity are needed around the category of freelancer.

Pleased that Channel 4’s licence has been extended but disappointing that the nations quota falls far short of the 16% that we and other industry bodies had maintained is necessary to sustain the careers of directors and other off-screen talent based in the nations.

This is why freelancers don't raise issues because the risk of effectively being blacklisted is all too real. Freelancers deserve the same right as employees to have their legitimate concerns heard without fear of detrimental treatment. theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2…
