You cannot do venture today if you do not do pre-seed. Signals are clearer than ever. Access is harder than ever. If you don’t have pre-seed, you won’t win the next generation of venture. Hence, all mega platforms do pre-seed.

In venture today you have to play one of two games and be very deliberate in choosing: 1. Mega Platform: You need $5BN+ and you are in every $100BN+ outcome at some stage with large checks. 2. Boutique: Sub $500M, where 10-15% on $3-6BN outcome returns the fund. Choose.

So many young people talk about wanting to win and succeed. But when it comes down to the endless late nights, working weekends, sacrifices to be made, they aren’t willing to do what it takes. The work you do in private is the work you are rewarded for in public.
