In Webb’s new deep field are galaxies that may have existed as early as 200 million years after the big bang! This long exposure to a small area of sky totals 120 hours of observing time and is Webb’s deepest look back on a single target to date! esawebb.org/images/potm250…

LISA is an experiment that sounds like science fiction: three spacecraft forming a laser triangle 2.5 million km per side, trailing Earth through space. It's also a rock-solid science case. It would be a real loss if the U.S. weren't a partner in this groundbreaking mission.

Had the pleasure of learning about LIGO and gravitational waves from Dr. Barry Barish this quarter! What an incredible class.

I don't think people realize the extent to which launch—rather than outer space itself—dominates the design of satellites and other space hardware. There are major gains to be had in this sector from on-orbit manufacturing capabilities.

The arts and maths undoubtedly borrow from each other, but we might assume that borrowing is left field or occasional. Marcus du Sautoy argues that, in fact, the two disciplines often operate on the same principles. Watch Marcus' full Public Lecture: youtu.be/xqH-oscXKTM

If we judge physics by the questions it allows us to (reasonably) ask, there's never been a more exciting time. In just the past century, we've progressed from asking 'What is everything made of?' to probing 'How did this Universe begin?'

In our world, all particles fall into one of two types. Fermions must keep to themselves, while bosons can behave the same way in the same place. quantamagazine.org/matter-vs-forc…

In her Oxford Mathematics Public Lecture Erica Thompson focused on the inevitable biases and subjectivity of mathematical models. Which is a bit of a problem when you have audiences only too willing to not believe those models. Watch the full lecture: youtu.be/OpYUxZry4vo
