The Special Issue celebrating 40 years of Takemi Program Program in International Health examines how #digitalhealth is transforming health systems globally, with evidence from multiple countries. These key elements provide context for the articles 🧵

Takemi Program As Michael R. Reich explains in the introduction, the papers are organized around 5 predictions from Mitchell & Kan's 2019 article "Digital Technology and the Future of Health Systems":

Takemi Program 1️⃣ Access to Internet-Based Information Will Be Universal Healthcare workers won't be the primary source of health info anymore. While this democratizes knowledge, quality control can become a challenge for governments and professional associations👇

Takemi Program 2️⃣ Health Workers Will Be Digitally Supported Every health worker will have digital tools for diagnoses, treatment decisions and patient communication. This will transform patient-provider relationships, work environments & care quality👇

Takemi Program 3️⃣ Most Health Care Will Be Provided at Home Telemedicine and new diagnostic technology will reduce facility visits. Success will depend on effective bioidentification and electronic medical records👇

Takemi Program 4️⃣ Transportation and Logistics Management Could Be Revolutionized Digital technology will transform emergency transport and medical supply delivery. Radical changes will be expected in healthcare administration and payment systems too👇

Takemi Program 5️⃣ Data Will Be Central to Health Systems Major changes will occur in the structure and use of digital health data to improve health system performance, particularly in low- and middle-income countries

Takemi Program The Special Issue features 12 papers examining these transformations in different contexts worldwide! Read more here: bit.ly/3NDPLzO
