Thank you Callum Anderson MP for coming out today to listen to a group of farm suppliers & service providers. Farmers are focusing on survival with very little optimism for the future, so long term investment is stalling and it’s not just the farmers that are feeling the pinch.

Spring drilling is underway! We’ll have patched up the gappy winter crops, drilled our spring oats, and now just have spring wheat left to sow. Our clay soils are slow to dry, so this lovely weather is providing the perfect conditions 😎. #drilling #farming

We have given up waiting for our SFI agreement to come through, and have started sowing wheat in areas we planned to leave as habitat. In my time on the farm cash flow has never been tighter, so we can’t risk leaving fields bare for a scheme we may not be accepted into.

Currently battling with a biodiversity metric to get planning permission to change a field into a dog walking field🤦🏻‍♂️! No biodiversity lost, but I still need to provide a 10% biodiversity net gain, what’s that all about 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Got lucky today. While investigating why the speed sensor on the sprayer wasn’t working, we found the wheel bearing had failed. So we jacked her up to investigate and the wheel pretty much fell off! That was close to being very serious, but all fixed now 😮‍💨

Interesting to see the allelopathic effect as the patches of blackgrass weeds have release a substance into the soil suppressing the wheat germination. Not ideal, but interesting. #blackgrass #farming

A bit of a progress report on a field of spring oats that I drilled a couple of weeks ago (you might have seen the sowing video). This time I am spreading some nitrogen fertiliser onto the crop to help it grow big and strong. #farming

Crazy ghost tree! Caterpillars have made a kind of silk web all over the tree and turned it from brown and green to white! Creepy but cool, I hope the tree will be ok! #nature #wildlife #caterpillars
