Putting the chart crime to one side... This partly just reflects seasonal trends. Outside of the pandemic period, the waiting list almost always falls in winter, when fewer people join the queue. Wouldn't shock me at all if it starts ticking back up over spring/summer.

By reforming public pensions govt could do a little to "stabilise the public finances, improve public services, enhance growth, and increase labour force participation. There aren’t many things over which it has such direct control and where there are such obvious wins".

The latest Scottish Fiscal Commission projections show funding for day-to-day spending on public services growing 0.8% a year in real-terms in the 3 years to 2028-29, down from 1.5% growth forecast last December. Implies VERY tough choices. Link to our full response here ⬇️
