Rest in peace Alvin Y.H. Cheung is unhappily vindicated (again) - my smart, sarcastic, cynical and kind classmate who went to Cambridge on a scholarship, became a legal scholar and BBC commentator, and dad to two young kids. You’ll be missed. arbormemorial.ca/en/reid/obitua…

THREAD: 1. PERSONAL NEWS: Today BBC News has announced plans to close BBC HARDtalk after 3 decades holding the world’s politicians and powerbrokers to account. This is sad news for me personally, but much more important, I think it’s depressing news for the BBC🧵

We know today’s news is troubling and some of you want to cancel your subscriptions. Please remember the hardworking employees of The Washington Post - our Guild members - had nothing to do with this decision. We are the ones who make The Post and we hope you stick with us.

Ten years ago Hong Kong saw a political awakening. Now it's in the grip of Beijing that's erasing a decade of protests. But for many HKers the memory of a freer city defiantly lives on. My long read written w Grace Tsoi Vicky Wong 黃ē‘‹ę®· Joy Chang Yu-Tzu bbc.com/news/articles/…

Just popping on to say I worked alongside Raffi Berg for several yrs including the 2014 Israel Gaza war, where he supported and sponsored my commissions including a trip to Gaza focussing on horrific injuries inflicted on Palestinians. I know him to be fair and a great journalist

I worked with Raffi Berg for years. He’s a brilliant journalist and author, and a great colleague. The attempted poor hit job on him - with such ā€˜revelations’ that as Mid East online editor he ā€˜micromanaged’ the Mid East index (his actual job) - is laughable and embarrassing.

ā€œI got death threats when men thought I put a feminist gesture in a video gameā€ In South Korea it is increasingly dangerous to be a feminist. Read how young men are attacking women they suspect are feminists and trying to get them fired. bbc.com/news/articles/…

So proud to be part of the incredible Post team recognized as Pulitzer finalists for our Gaza coverage. In awe of the indefatigable efforts of colleagues, particularly Gaza reporters Hajar Harb & Hazem Balousha, who have work through such personal hardship poynter.org/reporting-edit…

This is one of the stories that the Pulitzer board recognized, about the death of Hind Rajab: "Palestinian paramedics said Israel gave them safe passage to save a 6-year-old girl in Gaza. They were all killed." washingtonpost.com/world/interact…

I loved Sinners so much I watched it twice, and I’m still amazed at the effort Coogler went to to include the Asian American characters Bo and Grace Chow. Thanks AsAmNews for letting me write about it all! asamnews.com/2025/05/16/asi…

As someone who grew up in the exact same micro-demographic as Zohran Mamdani -- the secular, somewhat privileged Indian intelligentsia of NYC -- it's wild to see people typecast him as some sort of Muslim identity politician. It's alien both to his campaign pitch and upbringing.
