Big congratulations to 🎗️Karina Yaniv🎗️, GrauperaLab, and valentina greco on being awarded the European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant "Decoding endothelial cell behavioral mosaicism within single vessels". So well deserved. Angioscience is rocking!!!

Congratulations to Anna Dimberg, Magnus Essand and Thomas Tueting on being awarded the European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant "Targeting the vascular-immune interface to induce anti-tumor immunity". Fantastic recognition for outstanding VB research! Well done!!!

Congratulations to Bong-Ihn 'the apple does not fall far from the tree' Koh (Bong-Ihn Koh) & Vishal Mohanakrishnan (Vishal Mohanakrishnan) from the Ralf H. Adams lab for their landmark bone vasculature papers in nature (nature.com/articles/s4158…) & Nature Cell Biology (nature.com/articles/s4155…)

Interesting immunooncology postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Gabriele Bergers {BergersLab) at CCB_VIB_KUL.

7/Epigenetic states define disseminated tumor cell (DTC) fate. In this study, the authors find that hypomethylated DTCs respond to WNT ligands, extravasate and undergo dormancy, while methylated DTCs proliferate intravascularly. Moritz Jakab Hellmut Augustin nature.com/articles/s4301…

Congratulations to Charlie Dalin for winning the 2024/25 Vendée Globe single-handed round the world sailing race in an all-time record time of less than 65 days. Spectacular accomplishment. Fingers crossed for Boris Herrmann (10th place) for the remaining 3.000 mile finish line.

Epigenetic regulation of placental vascularization – now published in Developmental Cell (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…). Congratulations and thanks to Stephanie Gehrs for fantastic work and paving the way of the augustinlab.de into the world of vascular epigenetics. There’s more to come!

Spectacular hemangioma work from Joyce Bischoff lab in Journal of Clinical Investigation. Fantastic basic science (discovery of SOX18-mevalonate pathway in hemangioma) combined with great translational perspective (drug repurposing). Congrats to Anne Holm! Angiocrine signaling is rocking - pericrine signaling is the new kid on the block: Hepatic stellate cells control liver function (‘HSCs make the liver great again’) – now published nature (nature.com/articles/s4158…). Fantastic collaboration with the Robert Schwabe lab Columbia Univ.

Another hyped study in Nature Medicine claiming to have developed a predictive test for the identification of women at risk of developing preeclampsia. Sobering: The predictive value is no better than the cheap routine measurement of sICAM & sVCAM reported more than 20 years ago.

Following our epigenetic placental vasculature paper Developmental Cell (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…), the second chapter of our forthcoming vascular epigenetic trilogy was now published in Nucleic Acids Res (academic.oup.com/nar/article/53…): DNMT3A regulation of endothelial enhancer landscape. More to come!
