Public ownership ‘not the answer’ says Minister as Thames Water teeters. 36 yrs of market solutions - sewage in rivers, unplugged leaks, customers fleeced. Govt dithers. TW adds £3bn to debt, spends £200m a year on advisers. Need public ownership now. independent.co.uk/news/business/…

Water industry lobbyists tried to inflate the value of failing firms. Now it’s clear: bringing them into public ownership could cost close to £0. There’s support across the spectrum for public ownership. Action is a matter of political will. Common Wealth

What a nerve! Absolutely Starmer must intervene, to bring Thames Water into public ownership weownit.org.uk/act-now/bring-… Creditors and shareholders should lose money Voters would never forgive the government if they made it easier to pollute our rivers telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…

Becky Malby is an inspiration. It's nice to see the system getting it right for once. Swimmer, river campaigner, Lido champion, defender of the NHS and organiser of meals for kids, she so thoroughly deserves this recognition. Well done, Becky. IlkleyCleanRiver

The problem is Steve Reed said “pollution levels are worse in Scotland” which implies concentrations but have provided ‘incidents’ per 10,000km of pipe and the % of EDMs fitted. This doesn’t mean pollution is worse.

Thames Water shareholder funds in 1990, £1.3bn; invested zilch since Extracted £10.4bn in dividends. Paid £13.6bn interest Now borrowing at 9.75%. One-third customer bills service debt. Pays £200m a year to consultants. Must nationalise to end abuses. leftfootforward.org/2025/07/public…
