Somehow through all the gunfire and terror of the past 8 days, my *literal* ride or die, the brilliant @MakawiRaga found the head space to pen this account of our escape from what felt like the epicentre of the fighting. I hope everyone else in #Sudan can similarly find refuge 🙏

Kalakla in south Khartoum has been a hotbed of anti-coup protesters. Now this residential district has been bombed by the Sudanese armed forces. #sudan

Must read from Azza Ahmed, one of Sudan's most sensitive and grounded observers, on the run-up to this crisis - please read and circulate middleeasteye.net/opinion/sudan-…

Like many, I am evacuating out of #Sudan in the next few days. There's a story there. But it is by no means THE story. The focus on the wishes of the IC is partly what got us in this mess. The evac discourse is a fractal of the negotiations discourse which is limited in focus, +

Hey UNHCR Egypt, is there a reason you're not pushing to provide humanitarian support to #Sudan|ese people crossing the border? Processing time is 3 days between Sudanese and Egyptian authorities. People are stuck in no man's land with no water, food or shelter. 2 dead. ACT NOW.

The global south is akin to an exotic laboratory for western officials. Fun and interesting for them to try already failed experiments, then ditch when there is an explosive chemical reaction. What a joke. #Sudan

After getting evacuated, western officials -- and capitals -- appear to be abandoning civilians in a war between two men that the west has backed and legitimized for years. Now the west isn't even prioritizing aid into #Sudan My latest for Al Jazeera English aljazeera.com/news/2023/4/26…

Cameron Hudson Quite the burn. However, State didn't attempt to orchestrate a democratic transition, it quietly killed it by backing military solutions. In any case the US didn't need to "orchestrate" much, there was AND IS a thriving, independent pro dem movement - it was just roundly ignored.

Sahar Abuelbashar شيء ما matnashed Most embassies had staff sheltering there during the clashes. They could have contacted people whose passports they had and told them that they would take their passports with them to a safe haven before they evacuated. People could have gone there foe pick up - wasn't a priority

The introduction to my book, “Politics in the Crevices,” has just been released by Duke University Press ahead of its official publication in November. Pretty surreal to see this out in the world!
