As part of our The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants water #beetles #WildlifeTrainingWorkshop, we had the moth traps out last night @GreatFen. A bit too breezy, but we got 108 #moths of 13 species, including this lovely #Streamer. As the wind drops, look out for water beetles in your #moth traps.

A second #GreatSilverWaterBeetle recorded this year, as part of our The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants @GreatFen water #beetle #monitoring. A male, using a specially created shallow pool for invertebrates and other wildlife. Looking forward to see how widespread they are; it's looking promising.

Moth numbers have been really low this year, but I took a chance and set the #moth trap last night as the temperature was going to be a bit higher. The reward was a female #EmperorMoth; a first for our garden. Now she waits to attract the day-flying males with her pheromones!

Much warmer temperatures last night resulted in additional #moth species in our garden, but still in low numbers. This morning's catch of the day (night) included a lovely #OakHooktip, a #LimeHawkmoth, and an #EyedHawkmoth.

Like Henry, we've been getting #PaleTussock in the garden. One of my favourite #moths and what a fuzzy face! You'll have a chance to have your own close encounters of the moth-kind, at the Great Fen The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants #Ecotour on 14th June; places are still available.

First day of wildlifebcn.org/30dayswild and the #hawkmoths were out last night. Great to record a selection of these impressive insects our garden this morning. We've also added #StripedHawkmoth to garden list as well. As it's a migratory species, so watch out for this stunner!

The Great Fen #Ecotour is nearly here (Sat 14th June), and it's encouraging to see lots of wildlife out and about. #Dragonflies and #butterflies are on the wing. Young birds and mammals are our and about, from young #Kingfishers to #WaterVole pups exploring their #wetland world.

My #WorldPeatlandsDay was spent surveying for #WaterVoles, #monitoring water levels, preparing for the @GreatFen #Ecotour, and checking #trail cameras. The day ended with #FourSpottedChasers (below), #Cuckoos (listen) and my first #NorfolkHawker of the year.

The @GreatFen #camera rafts spot #wildlife rarely seen, but in this case you will have to listen! The #insect-like reeling call of the red listed #GrasshopperWarbler. This bird is colonising our sites under #conservation #restoration. Learn more on the #Ecotour, Sat 14th June.

A great weekend ahead at Great Fen, under its big blue skies in sunny weather. Looking forward to sharing the wildlife, the history, and the future of the #Fens on the #Ecotour this Saturday; the wildflowers, the moths, dragonflies, amphibians, birds, you get the idea..

A great year for the #ScarletTigers. Plenty of these stunning #moths recorded in our garden last night. A lovely highlight for The Wildlife Trusts #30DaysWild from The Wildlife Trusts. Look out for them, day and night.

The #river #GreatOuse is in great form this #summer, with #dragonflies in abundance; from #Emperors laying eggs and #NorfolkHawkers on the prowl, to #BandedDemoiselles on the wing and #RedEyedDamselflies on the lily pads. Look out for #FloweringRush and young #GreatCrestedGrebes.

Prepare for mid-air refuelling! If you think you've come up with a good idea, nature has usually done it first. #HummingbirdHawkMoths are fantastic, and coming to your gardens now. Look our for them.

Mid-air refuelling in progress! #HummingbirdHawkMoths may be in your gardens right now, feeding on the #nectar of Red Valerian, #Honeysuckle and in this case, Buddleia.

Great to have a little surprise in the #moth trap this morning. The scarlet underwings of this #JerseyTiger were great to see as it flew off afterwards.

Dragons abound at the @GreatFen! It's fantastic to record yet another site at the Fen for the newly arrived #SouthernMigrantHawker #dragonfly. This stunning blue male #insect is one of those #colonising the #reedbeds at the #Fen.

Nice to have a regular stream of #moth records coming in locally, thanks to my eagle-eyed young neighbours out #caterpillar hunting again. This time, it was an early stage #ElephantHawkMoth.
