I wish I had a picture but yesterday I came across a post 1837 parish marriage entry. Where the signatures/marks of the bride and groom should be, someone had written "nobody" and under witnesses "nobody knows". I wonder of the entry submitted to the GRO said the same?

This is very interesting and in Herefordshire we do have a lot of surnames with Welsh origins. Popular local names are Parry and Preece. And my own ancestors were Griffiths

A candidate for the prize of Britain’s sassiest tombstone, which I stumbled across in Kingsbridge, Devon yesterday. I love that through use of sarcasm, Bone Phillip has secured a lasting notoriety & memorial, whilst the boring rich folk buried further in have been forgotten…

Was looking at a Board of Agriculture report on Hertfordshire 1804 when farmers didn't want to pay too high an amount in wages as they were worried the workers would become too saucy!

Feedback form a recent talk: " Many thanks for this Clare. As usual, I found your talk to be a mine of useful information and potential leads, so thanks for condensing all of this information in such a helpful way." #BlowingMyOwnTrumpet

Just found this ace bit of commentary from a baptismal register. It goes to show that although indexes can be really useful, it does pay to check the original!

I am sure there is a scientific explanation, but I always find rhyming names amusing ( apologies to those who do have them!) Today's example is Jane Spain but I regularly come across Rees Preece and Hugh Pugh on my travels.
