Thank you to the Highfield helpers, who did an amazing job Tuesday at the Hill End Commemorative Garden. They finished in time to miss the downpour of rain. If you have not been in the garden, it’s worth a look. The information board gives an insight into the hospital buildings.

We have some very talented volunteer gardeners at the Trust, David donates plants from his own garden, The lovely pale pink flowers at the front of the Visitor centre belong to syringa microphylla , or a little leaf lilac which he grew from seed.

We had showers and sunshine on our Mini Beast Safari this morning with Harry, Elliot and Kelly from Rothamsted Research who spent a morning with our bug hunters identifying Mini Beasts in Highfield Park. All finds were returned safe and well to their natural habitat .

As we approach November 11th, our Soldiers from the 2018 Commemoration "Forty Four Hospital Workers Go To War" are back on parade in the Park. They tell the story of the forty four Hill End Hospital workers who went to fight in the First World War.

The next stage of woodland management of Hither Wood. The intention is to open up the canopy so that more light hits the woodland floor thereby encouraging wildflowers and allow the trees to develop fully. A lot of work to do!

Volunteers have been busy in the Rose Garden replacing some of the older specimens. We have now planted the following varieties: Sceptred Isle, Kew Gardens, Claire Austin and Scarborough Fair. They join Tottering by Gently and Lark Ascending which are now firmly established.
