Want to know what types of rocks are involved in subduction zone slow slip events? See what we found entering the source area of shallow SSEs Hikurangi with JOIDES Resolution now out in Science Advances ! @niwa_nz GNS Science Te Pū Ao University of Texas Institute for Geophysics advances.sciencemag.org/content/6/13/e…

So excited Marsden Fund selected our project for funding today! And just in time as we are leaving this weekend on R/V Tangaroa to deploy OBS and seafloor pressure sensors for the project! Looking forward to work with Emily Warren-Smith, Neville Palmer, Katie Jacobs, Martha Savage & others!

We are headed out tonight on R/V Tangaroa to deploy 10 OBS and 14 seafloor pressure sensors to catch an upcoming slow slip event at the offshore Hikurangi subduction zone! Hikurangi Emily Warren-Smith Marsden Fund GNS Science Te Pū Ao

Wow that went fast! The R/V Tangaroa deck is nearly empty now, 22 instruments deployed, 2 more to go and then we are done! Fingers crossed for slow slip in the not too distant future 🤞Emily Warren-Smith GNS Science Te Pū Ao @niwa_nz Hikurangi

GNS Science researchers are working with an international team onboard @niwa_nz's RV Tangaroa🚢using a remotely operated vehicle to study slow slips on the Hikurangi subduction zone.
