August 24, 1913, Chicago's National League Cubs, in an exhibition game in Schenectady, New York, defeated Rutland, members of the Tri-State league by a 5-0 score. Rutland wanted to pitch Frank Wickware of the Mohawk Giants, but Chicago refused to play against the Negro.
