Extreme Oxford Weather: Last night we recorded a minimum temperature of 20.4C at the Radcliffe Met Station, which is the 4th hottest night in Oxford since records began in 1815! This is an incredible figure in the context of over 75,000 nights of data! #ukheatwave #climatechange

The COSMOS-UK dataset includes a variety of soil and hydrometeorological observations for sites across the UK, including relative humidity, air temperature, net radiation and (of course) soil moisture. Here are some measurements from the Morley site @Morleyfarms.

The latest soil moisture summary is now available at cosmos.ceh.ac.uk. Soil moisture at most sites across the UK is close to normal for the time of year with the exception of unusually wet soils in central England, as shown here.

The soil moisture summary for December is available at cosmos.ceh.ac.uk. Many soils are wetter than expected for the time of year and are at or near saturation.

The latest soil moisture summary is now available at cosmos.ceh.ac.uk. There is a clear gradient of soil moisture across the UK, from wetter than normal soils in south to drier than normal soils in the north.

Peatlands are carbon-rich wetlands occupying 3% of the global land surface and 12% of UK land area. Loss of wetlands would lead to increased carbon and methane emissions #GHG monitoring and research informs decisions about #peatland management needed to help reach #NetZero
