Harry Olmer of The Windermere Children drama meets Daniel Libeskind on the shores of Windermere and shares stories of his time here in 1945, and much more. We learned he slept on top of his bedding on arrival as he was used to duvets and British traditional bedding was a novelty

A museum celebrating the Lake District arrival of child #Holocaust survivors could be built in the next few years. About 300 Jewish children were brought to Cumbria after being rescued from concentration camps in 1945. bbc.com/news/uk-englan…

There's a loudspeaker just above the mic! Lovely to record people from 45 Aid Society with a great deal to be optimistic about, as they look forward to a purpose-built Lake District Holocaust Project visitor centre and museum.

In January 2022, pupils from across the UK were challenged to write their own stories and reflections drawing from the accounts of The Windermere Children.

Thanks to funding from the Marks Family Charitable Trust, and supported by LDHP award-winning author of After The War ( based upon the accounts of The Children) Tom Palmer and the National Literacy Trust teamed up to create resources for schools to guide their pupils’ work.

It is a vision, an aspiration, it would commemorate the The Windermere Children, and the Kindertransport, the Sunderland factory, Calgarth Estate, Waterbird, the landscape and the community. It is the beginning of the next episode. With education at its heart.

The last of these three Windermere Children has left us. We say goodbye to Jack (right) today. He joins Mayer (left) and Sam (middle), all seen here at the Midland in Manchester 2005 during my very first meeting with any of the Windermere Boys and Girls. Legends all x

This photo shows Marie Paneth, the Art Therapist, English teacher, Youth Worker, amongst a group of young women Holocaust Survivors. The toll of the role on her health can be seen here. Marie is the only figure unable to look into the lens….. A truly remarkable photograph.

A sharp intake of breath resounded in my classroom today as a new delivery of ‘After the War’ by Tom Palmer arrived. We’ve reached the last chapter of Armistice Runner-so timely. One child expressed that she’d asked for After the War as a birthday present. Beautiful!🤩

The tree was planted at a place where a boy from Lancashire made friends with a young Holocaust Survivor who had arrived as part of a group of 300 survivors. Their friendship was forged in a Lakes hospital and continues to this day nearly eighty years later.

The Windermere Children story in the Lake District began in 1911. And here were in the early hours of a summer’s morning in 2022. Oh yes!✌️🙂

Many of these students and staff also worked on the site of the former Calgarth Estate in late April. LDHP really appreciate their enthusiastic input, help and interest.
