Players: Instead of spending time focusing on WINNING a championship, do what it takes to BECOME a champion. A champion’s mindset won’t begin/end with games or winning a title. It’s the deep desire to compete: in practice, at home, in the classroom, etc. Excellence is a lifestyle!

Players: Your future is shaped now, one decision at a time. It will always be what you make of it. You decide your attitude, whether to allow excuses, whether to put in the work. It’s a matter of choice. Ultimately, your future is in your hands. Your decisions equal your destiny.

Being on any team is a privilege, NOT a right. Now that we have got that out of the way... You must realize you voluntarily give up your right to be selfish, average and apathetic when others (teammates) depend on you.

Players: The same old habits lead to the same results. You want different results next year? You want success, improvement? What are you doing to overcome your obstacles? Are you making a plan to get better or just sulking & whining? Only one of these leads to anything positive.

Players: The difference between interested & committed players shows in the summer. Interested players need perfect circumstances(too hot/cold, no music). Committed players just need a place to work & get better (gym, track, weight room) & they do. How do you use your off-season?

Parents: Teach kids to focus their attention on things they can control. They can’t control other people, a coach’s decisions, or some of their physical attributes. But they can control work ethic, leadership role & attitude. It goes a long way in developing mentally fit adults.

Successful people make a lot of mistakes. They learn from them & keep trying until they get it right. They’re doing while you’re still waiting. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The only way to build grit, character & toughness is to try it, make adjustments & try it again.
