Quite the lesson for interlocutors to learn: that while you're having talks with the US, over the canapes and the smiles they set your country up for unprovoked attack and for you -- personally -- to be assassinated. So much for "jaw, jaw is better than war, war".

A quite magnificent piece by the peerless Brian Reade ‘Grenfell isn’t history, it’s a warning. A reminder that when we let inequality fester and the powerful dodge accountability we’re all at risk. So, today, march with them if you can. If you can’t then think of them and feel

I would like to thank the 136 fellow MPs and 29 peers from 10 political parties who have supported my letter today calling on the PM to deliver ‘The Hillsborough Law’ as he promised in the 2022 & 2024 Liverpool party conferences. A watered-down replacement will not be accepted

The psychology of inhumanity: "You know it’s wrong. You feel it’s wrong ... But Gaza is a parallel universe, and people move on quickly."

🗳️📊Labour must change our rotten voting system. Without democratic reform - starting with the introduction of Proportional Representation - Starmer's 'decade of national renewal' is a pipe dream. Read Will Hayward's column here: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The government's plan to proscribe Palestine Action is part of a wider crackdown on protest. Instead of taking steps to prevent genocide, the gov wants to criminalise people demanding justice for Palestinians. Sign the petition to oppose this plan: palestinecampaign.eaction.org.uk/NoProscription

Marwan al-Sultan, a senior doctor in Gaza, has become the 70th healthcare worker to be killed by Israeli attacks in the past 50 days. A number of family members were murdered alongside him. Marwan’s murder is part of a systematic and sickening targeting of healthcare workers.

Remember this data when we are told that the UK state/economy cannot afford the welfare state. The real problem is gross inequality of wealth & income. This is what a genuinely reforming government would prioritise. And it would be electorally popular to boot!

For a government facing myriad challenges, at risk of losing many of its core supporters, this should be an open goal. Take on the vested interests in the civil service, police etc. and fulfill the PM's promise. Who knows - it might even be popular!

Today marks one year since the General Election of 2024. That election saw the most disproportional outcome in UK electoral history, with Labour winning a landslide majority of 172 seats, based on just over one-third of votes across the UK. electoral-reform.org.uk/one-year-on-fr…

UPDATE: 75+ MPs have signed my motion calling on Keir Starmer to fulfil his promise to introduce the Hillsborough Law "in full and without delay". It would be a grave mistake for him to return to Liverpool for Labour conference in September without first fulfilling this pledge.

Many West European governments are clearly rattled at the extent to which they have lost their control of the historical narrative of conflict in the Middle East. There is no putting this genie back in the bottle...
