Last night was the Annual Spring Gala of the Sisters of Charity of New York. It was an incredible event, thanks to everyone involved in making it possible Sisters of Charity ! CEO Matt Janeczko was the master of ceremonies!!!

NYC is faced with an unprecedented crisis and needs aid from the federal government to properly address. Over 67,000 people have come to the city seeking asylum in the past year, and they need access to housing to be able to live decent lives and participate in their communities.

NYS failed to achieve major action on building more affordable housing in this year’s state budget, but SCHDC remains committed to its advocacy for affordable housing and fighting to #endhomelessness. Have a listen to two top officials on what we are focused on: what’s next?

Thank you Pete Sikora for a very good breakdown of Local Law 97 and what it means for NYC's future. LL97 should help move NYC towards a climate-resilient future, one built for all its residents. As a housing provider, we are comitted to decarbonizing our buildings.

Repealing the 90-day rule would be very effective measure in combating the homlessness crisis and the asylum-seeker crisis. It is also a complete no-brainer for housing providers to support more access to more vouchers.

It's #CleanAirMonth, and we want to highlight that NYC's buildings are the largest cause of air pollution. Maximizing the performance of our buildings is crucial, and part of our mission, as that pollution's affects are discriminatory. Read more: rmi.org/new-york-emits…

#JustPay is crucial to our Human Services workers, they deserve a pay raise! On a #DayWithoutHumanServices, we are advocating for at LEAST a cost of living adjustments for the people on the front lines who are responding to multiple crises.

In a market with a dire housing shortage, increasing supply is a valid strategy for combating rising prices. However, people still need relief today, which is why we need increased funding for tenants and owners. Providers need the funds to continue providing quality housing.

As a supportive housing provider, it is our duty to call out any cracks in the system that hinder us from providing truly supportive, safe, quality, and permanent housing. Supportive housing is the front line in the fight against homelessness, and we must protect and bolster it.

As Wildfire smoke clouds the air of #NYC at levels greater than any major city in the world, we are being told to stay indoors. Our #homeless brothers and sisters can not be indoors. Building #quality affordable, supportive housing is needed NOW, not in 5 or 10 years.

There are proven, effective methods that are proven to work in the fight against homelessness, primarily #supportivehousing. NYC is faced with an epidemic of unhoused or housing insecure folks, and investing in these services benefits ALL.
