We showed that a large volume of ocean water above the volcano was uplifted as a result of explosion & solid earth rebounded immediately, resulting in a huge vertical force upward. A great shot of Jinyin & Son with our Terrawulf, used to run inversions & waveform simulations 🌋🌋

I am happy that Anya Makushkina's PhD work on teleseismic receiver functions of Scandinavia led to exciting results just published in Geology. Crustal stacking and edge-driven convection led to the rise of the Scandinavian mountains 👩‍🎓⛰️ ANU Earth Sciences 🌏 doi.org/10.1130/G52735…

My PhD student, Ammu Sanjayan, made this amazing cake for the "Bake your PhD" competition RSES holds yearly. She studies the Antarctic ice cover using the waves of distant earthquakes that reverberate within and beneath the ice layer to characterize its thickness and properties

Newly located marsquakes in the Southern Highlands helped us peek into the mantle of both sides of the Martian dichotomy border, which revealed a difference in seismic wave attenuation & temperature, pointing to the internal cause of the dichotomy. SEDI-AGU Research at ANU ourANU

Today is the birthday of Andrija Mohorovičić, the discoverer of the crust-mantle boundary––Moho. This monument was erected in Zagreb, near the building he worked at. Interestingly, the 1556 Shaanxi, 1812 New Madrid, and 1885 New Zealand quakes happened on this day 😱 EGU Seismology

In a new #SRL paper, a team of scientists present BayesBay, a Python package for generalized transdimensional and hierarchical Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling. This program allows geophysics researchers to explore a variety of inverse problems. buff.ly/0lYwXpp
