It’s been a hot day across France today with 137 monthly records broken. 37°C was recorded in Beggar, the previous record was 34.7°C in 2001. The heat records just keep tumbling.

I reckon if the airport was still open, Finningley would have beaten the June Yorkshire record which was set in 1976 (32.1C from memory) - sites like Waddington in Lincs got 32.6C today so it would have been very close !

What are the odds this July’s Mediterranean heat is natural? About 1 in a billion! It's the most extreme Mediterannean heatwave on record. Peak anomalies +8C (+14F) now off France/ Italy with absolute peak temps near 31C/88F. Those are isolated, but how deviant are the overall

It's beginning to look a little brown across England now due to the lack of rainfall. The last really wet month was September.

Southeast Water, with 1.4 million customers today became the second large water company to announce a hosepipe ban…I would think only a matter of time before Thames Water follows
