Catastrophic flash-flooding is expected along numerous streams, especially in the NC/SC mountains and NE GA. Flooding of mainstem rivers is expected, with major to possibly historic flooding near the Blue Ridge Escarpment. Landslides/debris flows expected through at least Friday.

Wind gusts of 45 to 60 mph are expected tonight into Friday, with brief 60 to 70 mph gusts possible across the western part of the area. Widespread downed trees and numerous power outages likely. Isolated tornadoes are possible through Friday morning.

ROAD CLOSURE: McIlwaine Road is closed at Beatties Ford Road and just east of the bridge on McIlwaine Road due to flooding. Barriers have been put in place to block motorists from driving in the area.

NCDOT has created a new traffic pattern at Gilead Rd. and Exit 23 on I-77. It has also affected the Gilead Rd. and US 21 (Statesville Rd.) intersection. You cannot turn left anymore. NCDOT encourages drivers to plan for extra time to become familiar with the new traffic pattern.
