1/6 📢Belated post, but happy to report our open-access paper out in PLOS One that provides new insights into food practices & long-distance exchange in Early Bronze Age southeastern Arabia (2800–2000 BCE) using organic residue analysis of ancient pottery journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

2/6 We analysed extracts from locally-produced and imported pottery from sites in present-day northern Oman and the UAE and detected meat, dairy, and plant products in them. So far, this is the earliest direct evidence for dairying in southeastern Arabia! 🥩🥛🧀

3/6 The detection of plant residues, despite low preservation potential, suggests a wider range of organic commodities were used in pottery than previously understood and provides evidence of plants that are not commonly found through other methods in archaeology 🌱🌴🌿

4/6 Imported vessels from Mesopotamia and the Indus Civilisation were also analysed and contents included animal fats, plant and marine products. 🐟🌿🥩Do these reflect signals of actual imported products, or represent multiple uses of vessels? 🤔Read to find out!
