Idk who needs to hear this but you can love your job and find it deeply meaningful, and yet still want to work only a certain number of hours and want to have relationships, hobbies, and an identity outside of medicine.

Late to #Medtwitter but super excited to be joining the team Emory Urology! So thankful to UPMC Urology for the amazing support and guidance! I couldn’t have done this without you all.

Excited to see this group that continues to be instrumental to my journey become a division! Looking forward to the future Dr. Jacobs and Benjamin J. Davies MD!

Thanks to STAT for giving me a platform to discuss this painfully common but rarely discussed issue. #BlackMedTwitter #MedTwitter #Gaslighting Gaslighting of Black medical trainees makes residency something to ‘survive’ statnews.com/2022/03/10/gas

About half of Black adolescents who attempted suicide never met criteria for a psychiatric condition by current screening tools. This indicates that our instruments may not be adequate for screening Black youth suicide risk.

In the words of Brittany 💕, the kids are not alright. Suicide rates are increasing for Black youth, as well as children in other racially minoritized communities. We need more research examining the trends, better screening tools, and better interventions.

1/ At the bedside with a Grady elder, 2018. Him: "Is that a tattoo on your wrist?" Me: "Yes, sir." Him: *scowls with disapproval* "You a doctor with a tattoo on your wrist?" Me: *chuckle* "Yup." Him: *squinting* "Is it real? Like. . . permanent?" He leaned a little closer.

One thing I want all resident physicians to be free from is the idea that we need to be immensely grateful for just being here. So grateful to serve that we shouldn’t demand more. All that does is perpetuate the unjustness of the system.

Be yourself so that the people looking for you can find you. I read that during the Match last year and decided I’d hold onto it 💛 #Match2023 #UrologyMatch

What a pleasure it was to have Dr. Wilson Shenelle Wilson, MD (she/her) talk with us this morning during Grand Rounds Emory Urology about Urology Unbound and about how residencies can contribute to diversifying the field of urology.

1/ I reached into the console and fished around for my badge. It wasn’t there. My brow furrowed. Me: “Badge, we are not doing this today.” My hand swept over my passenger seat as I eked closer to the parking garage. Still no badge. Now I was almost at the entrance. Grrrr.

Yesterday, I finally found the courage to confront a pain I've lived with all my life. This could fundamentally change everything but it's an important first step towards recovery. It all started 27 years ago...

This adorable little Hausa girl walked into our Chess class and asked if she could join us. She was born and has lived all her life under the bridge with no education because her mother lives in abject poverty. I hope the world never takes this beautiful smile from her.
