Engaging in dialogue with law enforcement officials helps to promote fundamental rules linked with their responsibilities. The ICRC held a session on international standards and basic principles on the use of force and firearms for 40 militiamen in Gode, #Somali Regional State.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems protect military medical services and humanitarian workers in armed conflicts. National Societies, their International Federation, & the ICRC use the emblems to identify themselves as part of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

All detainees are entitled to humane treatment, whatever the reason for their arrest & detention. In #Ethiopia, the ICRC visits detainees in prisons, police stations and other facilities. We share our findings only with the relevant authorities, bilaterally & confidentially.

Engaging law enforcement on the legal use of police powers to address humanitarian concerns and protect civilians. The ICRC engaged with 78 officers on use of force, firearms, arrest, and detention standards in Dambi Dollo and Gimbi from Kellem and West Wellega, #Oromia region.

Equipping healthcare staff with essential skills improves care for people in areas affected by armed conflict. From 5-9 May 2025,ICRC provided a Basic Emergency Care Training to 16 health workers coming from seven conflict-affected areas in #Lalibela,North Wollo,#Amhara region.

The ICRC conducted a training on Protection of Family Links for 23 newly recruited Ethiopian Red Cross Society volunteers. Participants strengthened their skills to effectively utilize tracing tools to re-establish family links disrupted by armed conflict, migration, or natural disaster.
