It is intolerable that the catastrophic humanitarian situation has lasted a month; It is unacceptable that it lasts any longer. Today at the Gaza forum I urged States to protect civilians and to ensure the practical implementation of the laws of war. icrc.org/en/document/ic…

Extremely concerning reports from ICRC and PRCS staff at Al Quds on the critical situation of hospitals in Gaza. Thousands of wounded, displaced people and medical staff are at risk. We strongly reiterate that hospitals must be protected in line with the laws of war.

The plight of those still being held hostage is a top priority for us. We facilitated the release of 4 hostages. We are pushing to visit those remaining. But we need the support of all those who have influence to make this happen.

Today I met families of hostages and Israel's foreign and health ministers. The families' pain is simply heart-wrenching. The hostages must immediately be released. ICRC will not stop working to gain access to them: and we need agreements to be reached that allow us to work.

Dr. Tom Potokar, our chief surgeon in the European Hospital in #Gaza shares the situation of the healthcare workers and of those civilians affected. "Is seeing so many destroyed lives, so many shattered bodies, burned bodies, particularly in children... this is such a tragedy".

#Sudan is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis. ❌The war has forced almost 7 million people to flee the fighting. ❌Millions are struggling to access food, water. 📢 IHL is clear: civilians must be protected & must have access to basic services!

.ICRC mourns the loss of our colleague Abdellatif Ali Moussa who was killed in Gaza along with several family members. The toll of this conflict on frontline workers is unacceptable. Humanitarian workers and civilians are not part of the fight. They must be protected.

I have arrived in Gaza, where people’s suffering is intolerable. I repeat our urgent call for civilians to be protected in line with the laws of war and for aid to enter unimpeded. The hostages must be released and ICRC allowed to safely visit them. icrc.org/en/document/is…

Today, as a neutral intermediary, we facilitated the release of 94 detainee members of SAF, reuniting them with their families in Zaleingei, #Darfur. We don't negotiate or influence the decision on who is released and when. This decision is taken by the parties to the conflict.

After visiting Gaza I am in Israel for ongoing discussions with authorities. I’m meeting families of hostages: ICRC must be granted permission, with practical details agreed between the parties, for visits to take place. I reiterate: hostages must be released - immediately.

Today in the West Bank I am meeting with the leadership of the PRCS and with the Ministry of Health. I will also see the Committee of Detainee Affairs – to listen and share with them ICRC’s persistent efforts to regain humanitarian access to places of detention.

❗️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 These days our teams in Moscow and Minsk are participating in another transfer operation to reunite Ukrainian children with their relatives in Ukraine. We do it together with authorities of Russia, Ukraine and Qatar.

Thousands have died or been injured in Ukraine. Millions have had to flee their homes. The needs are still vast all over the country. And we will continue to support the most affected and vulnerable people.
