Great weekend up in the hills of South Wales looking for water voles with volunteers. Big thank you to all who came along on the day, and I'm glad we got to see so many field signs. Fingers crossed the Water Voles will have a good breeding season up there this year.

Marsh Fritillary pupae In the wild Marsh Fritillary pupate under the leaves of Molinia and Devil's-bit Scabious, but in the pens they pupate on black sheets and plant pots as well as the plants. We think its to do with warmth. Marsh Fritillary love the warmth.

The first of our Marsh Fritillary butterflies emerged yesterday inside the rearing pens. They have been on the wing at Llantrisant Common for a few days now. This nice weather will help them when it comes to egg laying.

Its a great start to our Pied Flycatcher monitoring in the Amman Valley this year. We have around 30 nest after the second week of checks. The monitoring this year has been made possible by all the landowners who we work with and some brilliant volunteers.

To celebrate the success of our upland Water Vole project, we've produced this wonderful (day in a life) animation. American Mink are still the biggest threat Water Voles face. Please help us fight for our remaining Water Voles. bit.ly/4eymyTy

Cattle are back at Llwyndewi Nature Reserve. Wonderful evening spent at the reserve watching these guys settling in to their new home. Cattle and conservation grazing are so important to Welsh Wildlife. Huge thank you to Toby our grazier.

This Water Vole was filmed going about its business on the River Thaw in South Wales. They were reintroduced to the river last year, after a 20 year absence. Surveys this year suggests that the population is doing well and the Water Vole are exploring new habitats.
