Do you love the work that we do to help save Australia's native wildlife from being trashed, trampled, choked & killed by invasive species? We depend on support from everyday Aussies. With the end of financial year fast approaching, make sure you donate: invasives.org.au/donate/

Australia's a lot quieter than it used to be. Feral & roaming pet cats have had a HUGE impact on our native wildlife, helping to hunt 27 of our native animals to extinction. We’ll never again see the Desert Bandicoot or Paradise Parrot. They’re gone: invasives.org.au/blog/meet-the-…

Good news: The WA Govt commit to a cane toad containment zone to protect the Pilbara. The unique landscape makes it possible with narrow geography, few waterways & natural barriers like the Great Sandy Desert. Success will depend on comprehensive, ongoing funding Roger Cook

⚠ Distressing but don't look away⚠️ These are sea lions dying from the deadly H5 bird flu in Chile. This could happen on Aussie beaches soon, but the Aus Govt isn't prepared. Last year >30k South American sea lions died this way. There are only ~12k sea lions in Australia. 🧵👇

🧵3. But while Australia faces a potential wildlife massacre, we aren't properly prepared. There are hardly any local or species level plans to reduce deaths & stop extinctions. Where are the detailed plans for sea lions on Kangaroo Island, or birds in Kakadu? Not yet developed.

🧵6. The Invasive Species Council have made 12 recommendations to Anthony Albanese, Tanya Plibersek & new Ag Minister Julie Collins which we are hoping to see urgent action & funding for. Remember this bird flu could lead to extinctions & bird deaths on the scale of the black summer bushfires.

A big thank you to Senator Murray Watt for your constructive engagement on enviro biosecurity & invasives issues. Recent changes in Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry leadership give us confidence enviro biosecurity is being given greater focus & we're eager to see this momentum continue under Julie Collins.

A reminder of the sort of people trying to stop control of feral horses in Kosciuszko NP. When the NSW Supreme Court found aerial shooting is done professionally & humanely, the response from some was to say "shoot the judge". There's no place for disgusting attacks like this.
